Known as Sabah’s biggest charity event, we welcomed runners of all ages, size and abilities for our 13th Sutera Harbour 7K Sunset Charity Run last Saturday evening.
Although we experienced a heavy downpour just before noon, the sun miraculously came up at the right time and we saw more than 13,000 runners patiently waiting at the start line for the Run to begin.
But before the Run began, the crowd was led with a warm-up session conducted by the Zumba Fitness Sabah (ZFS) team as the DJ pumped dance music in the air. Thousands of runners were flagged off at 5.17pm by the Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr. Panyuki Matta representing the Minister of Youth & Sports YB Datuk Haji Tawfiq bin Datuk Haji Abu Bakar Titingan.
Shortly after that, the second flag off was made by the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu YBhg Datuk Abidin Madingkir. Our Guest of Honour Mr. Panyuki Mata together with VVIPs YB Datuk Edward Yong, Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister and his wife YBhg Datin Mary Yong, Mr. Howie Roberts, GM of Sutera Harbour Marina Golf & Country Club and other invited guests accompanied children from our 7K Beneficiaries; Sabah Thalassaemia Society and Special Olympics Sabah in the 7K Run.
Non-participating runners were entertained with a 7K Carnival which began as early as 4.00pm. There were plenty of mouth-watering local and international delicacies, drinks, and game stalls setup on site. The deejays from ERA FM KK, MY FM KK and hitz.fm KK entertained the crowd as they awaited for the last batch of runners to return.
Cries of ‘Encore!’ were heard as Sabah’s local talents TAKT, Apiz Paschya, Theo, Vons, April, Pure Harmony, Hippocamps, Diary of Us, Dang Bandangs and Janrywine created a buzz with their energetic performances.
Here’s a video shared by ilovesabah.info that captured the 7K Run mood.
Once again, THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR UNENDING SUPPORT!!
