“When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.” – Maya Angelou.
Those words rang true at the recent 15th Sutera Harbour 7K Run Cheque Presentation ceremony held at Sutera Harbour Marina & Country Club today. A collection of RM202,016.95 was distributed equally to our beneficiaries, Sabah Thalassaemia Society and Special Olympics Sabah.
Our resort’s Deputy CEO Gerard Tan presented the cheques to both beneficiaries namely, Francis Mujim (President of the Sabah Thalassaemia Society) and Datuk Hj Mohd Safari Bin Manan (Board Chair of Special Olympics Sabah). Also present to witness the presentation were the founder of Sutera Harbour 7K Run, Foo Kia Inn and Rick Blackie, General Manager of Sutera Harbour Marina, Golf & Country Club.
Deputy CEO Gerard Tan in his welcome address expressed his gratitude to the 12,000 supporters of the 7K Run last year, whose continuous support has made the 7K Run the biggest charity event in Kota Kinabalu. He also thanked the Minister of Youth & Sports, Kota Kinabalu City Hall, Federal Youth & Sports Department Sabah, KK City Police, Traffic and Public Order Unit, event’s Main Sponsor One XOX Sdn Bhd, Official Radio Astro Sabah, Official Drink 100Plus, Official Energy Drink Red Bull and Contributing Sponsors Parex Group Sdn Bhd and SHAPE Magazine for their invaluable support. Additionally, appreciation was relayed to several schools who participated with the 7K Collection Card, as well as medias and members of the public for supporting the event with their donations and participation in the 7K Run.
Rick Blackie, GM of Sutera Harbour Marina, Golf & Country Club announced that the 16th Sutera Harbour 7K Run will be held on 20 August 2016. We hope that everyone will continue to support the event in aid of the two beneficiaries.
Special Olympics Sabah (SOS) provides year-round sports training and athletic competitions in a variety of Olympic-type sports for mentally challenged children and adults. Proceeds from the Run will provide SOS with the much needed-fund to organise year round sports for its participants.
The Sabah Thalassaemia Society provides medical services to patients of Thalassaemia, an inherited blood disorder that requires regular blood transfusions and bone marrow transplants as treatment options. Funds received by the Sabah Thalassaemia Society will be used to obtain desferal drugs to remove excess iron received from regular blood transfusions and essential medical equipment like syringe desferal pump. These desferal drugs will be retailed to the patients who cannot afford to buy them in bulk.
